OpenOffice Writer, like all OpenOffice suites, can be used on many operating systems, including Mac OS X, Microsoft Windows, Linux, FreeBSD, and Solaris. Writer is a word processor, similar to Word in WPS Office. OpenOffice Writer is the word processor portion of the OpenOffice package. OpenOffice includes a word processor (Writer), spreadsheets (Calc), demo program (Impress), drawing software (Draw), a mathematical formula editor (Math), and a relational database management system (Base). OpenOffice is an open-source office package software that originated from Sun Microsystems' acquisition of StarOffice from StarDivision in 1999. It is compatible with various major office software suites. There is no denying that OpenOffice is a free-to-use and cross-platform suite of office software that can be executed on operating systems such as Windows, Linux, MacOS X (X11), and Solaris.
